I'll explain why I was there in more detail when I'm back home on Thursday, but the visibility on the Cat And Fiddle Pass (A537) at about 2.00 this afternoon was rather close to zero. It was pissing down, to use the vernacular, and there were clouds above, below, and all around us. "And now for the weather, the sun'll be killing'em in Gillingham, choking in Woking, dry in Rye, cool in Goole and if you live in Lissing Down, you'd better take an umbrella." [with thanks to the late, great Ronnie Barker] I always felt that that joke was spoilt somewhat by the fact that "Lissing Down" doesn't actually exist... (Not that I have anything but admiration for the work of Ronnie Barker, needless to say.)

Well the sun has been killing us in Portland (sadly I can't think of any comedic rhyme) and it's poured with rain overnight. Theoretically it should be a little cooler today than it has been. The heat's been insane in the heartlands of Maine? PDR

'Cold winds sweep across the state' read the supposed-to be threatening headlines. It IS winter here....and a colder wind to yesterday for which I am grateful that I did both messages then on the train replacement bus, got home after 6pm.
Supposed to rain later today/tonight.

Cold winds today, coming straight off Antarctica, picked up mid morning, followed by the blowing down the driveway of multiple loose paper bags, assorted litter etc, all of which I end up picking up as no one else here can or will (one neighbour can't, being older and using a walking frame and the others drive in and out)
A bit of rain tonight, the wind continues, whistling through the front door.

I'll let you off! I don't know yet whether dobbing sticks work in this new forum, or indeed whether their use falls within the house rules. But if they do, just remember that you and I have the only two currently known to be in working order!

Wet, wild and windy here today. I may not even get out today, only want to get the newspaper and lotto ticket for tonight but am blown sideways into the path of cars when crossing the road.
If the rain stops at some point, I may manage it, otherwise not.
Been out and picked up more blown-up-the-driveway serviettes etc, blown out of people's cars as they pull up outside for the pool/gym across the road.
Straightened the blown-about bins though that is a futile exercise until the wind calms down, they'll only blow around again.

Slightly cooler and greyer than yesterday, but that's enough about me!
The weather is much the same.....

It was supposed to be a little cooler today, and in fact earlier it was quite pleasant - somewhere around 80F. However, right now it feels hot and sweaty again. Air conditioner on again in the bedroom tonight I think - temps. have been in the mid 80s every time I've gone to bed and that's too hot to sleep comfortably in.

Much nicer than yesterday, the strong cold winds and sideways showers have gone. Feels positively warm.

The sun's shining and it's quite warm, but I'm looking out of a window that faces west-ish and the sky is full of thick, grey cloud.

No rain here.
It has been fairly grey for most of the day, but we currently have bright sunshine.
Kent still has better weather than Sussex !

Low 80s again today but it is supposed to be rainy tomorrow, which is the day we are driving two hours each way to go to an event in Rockland. Of course. But we plan to break the journey with a stop at Moody's Diner, which does the world's best PIES.

I'm sure our Antipodean cousins will have issues with that statement too!

Oh yes definitely sweet ones - I don't think they even make savoury ones.

I'm sure our Antipodean cousins will have issues with that statement too! Here when we say 'pies' it is usually of the meat-in-pastry variety. There has been a big shift in just the traditional one (which is still sold at our football games - considered very Aussie) and now multiple variations are offered, including chicken/leek, lamb, curry, and many more. Each year a competition is held with a bakery winning a prize for the best pie.

Pouring with rain today, and there's a flash flood warning for Portland, which we shall avoid because we're taking a trip up to Rockland today, as I want to go to a poetry reading by the poet Mark Doty, whose work I really like.

Been raining all morning and the temps will barely break 70F today. Arthritis is agreeing wholeheartedly and painfully with this.
