I'm getting error messages when I try to access the old forum at the moment. They haven't closed it down early, have they?
EDIT: Oh no, back to normal. Good.
Do we have an actual date for the closure?

End of July/start of August they said So no actual date as yet. That's OK - as long as I've got time to upload all the additional posts from the New Number Fact Game beyond 10,000 (which will take a few days), I'm not too bothered. I wouldn't want to lose all those as well!

Likewise, as I'll be away from July 30 - Aug 3, I may miss the official shut down if it happens then. Will have to try these boards on my phone to see how it goes.

If you are visiting here from your phone amanda you might want to use the desktop version, the option is in the bottom right hand corner. I’m not sure that the moderator options are available on the mobile version

I'm always on the computer when at home, I'm yet to try playing with the site on the phone for my time away but will do it. I may not be able to moderate during that time. (with the old site I could at least delete the posts even if I couldn't ban users on the other site we had to log into)

I never look for my missing socks any more as they almost invariably reappear inside other pieces of clothing. I recently made the decision to throw out all my old socks (most of which were worn out anyway) and buy ten pairs of identical ones, so matching them up is no longer an issue. One cause of unnecessary stress completely eliminated.

Since living alone, it is up to me anyway to load the socks in pairs into the machine. Therefore they should all be there, and having a front loader, I now copy my mother's habit of spinning the drum around one final time to check for that stray sock. They only leave the laundry in pairs.....

I came home once with more pants than I left with! A rather oddly designed underpant, and Colin and I debated whether it was male or female. It wasn't the right size for either of us, anyway. These are great for keeping socks paired up. Lots of different brands, but I have Loc-a-Sok. They go through the wash paired up, you put them away still paired up. They stay clipped together at all times until you put them on.

...buy ten pairs of identical ones, so matching them up is no longer an issue. That's exactly what I do! A sock develops a hole, throw it away. When another sock develops a hole, throw it away too, and you don't have to worry about having two odds socks.
I also have a sock-sack to try and eliminate the kind of problem that happened earlier today.
Evidently, it doesn't always work.

It’s only very recently I started wearing matching pairs. Supposed to have a responsible position at work, and different socks is “unprofessional”
I used to wear socks with says of the week, and on, say, a Wednesday I would wear one Tuesday, and one Thursday.

When I had a husband and two sons at home at the same time, I tried buying all black socks for them for precisely this problem. However since they were different sizes I couldn't buy all the same variety. This led to prolonged matching sessions after laundry - you'd be amazed at how many different types of black sock there are.

I have socks of two varieties, white ones and black ones, all socks of the same color are bought at the same time to get around the many shades of black issue. Usually every 7 years or so I ditch all the socks I have and restock. This time around that time period is being curtailed as Finnegan for some reason took a liking to chewing my socks and within about 6 months of him arriving in our house he had got through half of my sock drawer. His addiction seems to have slackened off and I can now put my socks in the laundry bin without him getting into them.

You can get black socks with differently coloured toes and heels, so any work socks can be matched as pairs straight out of the wash.

TGH's plain black socks are mostly of the kind described by Alexander. Being an organised sort of a fellow, he has alteady laid out the clothes which he intends to wear tomorrow and they include a pair of black socks with purple toes and heels.
I don't wear socks a great deal. Only with trainers really, and I am sufficiently uncool that most of my socks are plain white and may be considered interchangeable.

I have 30 pairs of identical black socks, and the same in white. Unfortunately, it is some time since I did any laundry, and I just came back with 10 days worth, so the machine will be busy for a while...

This is an area where I'm afraid I shamelessly use relative affluence to trade frugality for convenience. Aside from "special purpose" socks (thick ones for walking boots & wellies mainly) I have sets of black socks and they don't get paired. I buy them in packs of 7 pairs, three packs at a time and these sit in the drawer in rotation (freshly laundered ones go to the back of the drawer and I pull a pair from the front each morning). I don't need to "pair" the socks because they are all identical. When a sock develops a hole then it goes in the fabrics recycling bag. I typically do my socks & underwear wash overnight on friday so they can sit on the clothes horse over the weekend and be returned to the draw on Sunday.
Obviously the stock progressively reduces to the point where I find there's only three or four socks left on friday morning. At that point I go to the shop and buy three new 7-packs of black socks. I give my remaining stock (perhaps 8-9 pairs) to a charity shop because they still have plenty of wear left in them for someone else, and replenish the drawer with the new socks. No matching required, ever, so I don't even pair them up. The drawer is just a WSOGSMU ("whole sort of general sock mash-up") from which fresh socks are drawn as required.
It's profligate, but it only costs me £20-25 once or twice a year and I frankly can afford it, while also providing a supply of usable pre-cherished foot-coverings for the hoseologically less fortunate of our society. I generally look to align the stock refreshment to some time in april-may to ensure that I would have sufficient sock capability to cover a 2-week holiday if needed.
Life's too short to waste time pairing socks. SOme say life's too short to stuff mushrooms, but I feel that depends on what the mushrooms did to you.

RLD told me that we can post photos that are stored on our computer to this forum if we post them as attachments, so I tried to do that on the Hedgehogs thread with a photo I have on my computer of the groundhog that lives in our garden. However, the photo is 3mb and I can't upload anything over 1mb. I have no idea how to compress it and would appreciate advice given at the kind of level you would offer your granny, unless your granny happens to be extraordinarily techy.
Edit: Don't worry - I just worked it out! Go granny go!

I'm not sure how this forum works in this respect but on another forum where I am a member each user has an allotted amount of storage and that is used up by using file attachments etc. This was done to discourage using up the forum space for large files and to encourage the use of offsite storage such as imgur/gyazo etc. Perhaps something that an admin can explain for us.
