Didn't Bobbie McGee make you want to hitchhilke around America? It did for me.

I do know what you mean there!
I never did hitch hike my way across the USA, because hitch hiking wasn't really recommended by the time I was old enough to do it. But I did have a couple of long road trips and a few minor adventures.
Kris Kristofferson was a Democrat. These are not numerous in the world of country music - but he was never entirely sure whether he was a country singer or a folk singer, and Democrats are rather more common in the latter world. He was often classified with the "outlaws" - although he was perhaps a bit too "establishment" really to belong there, except for his renowned fondness for marijuana.
To me, the most surprising thing about Kris Kristofferson was always his real name, viz Kristoffer Kristofferson. His grandfather was Swedish which explains the surname, but even so the name just looks like a stage name - and isn't!

Why do I read this thread?. I really want to know the answer to that
I was doing fine, and now I just read the post about Maggie Smith and feel crushed.
I loved her in Downton abby, though I've still yet to see the second movie.
I read somewhere that her character dies in the second film, and I'd rather not watch it than see that..
I also read somewhere Maggie herself asked for her death scene

I believe she did, and did a stellar job of it too. I think she was quite glad to be rid of the Harry Potter franchise - she said she'd "run out of faces to pull".

Spookily he and Donald Dewar died during a Scotland Croatia football match.
"During the match the Scotland support was stunned by the news that former First Minister Alex Salmond had died. Bizarrely the only other former First Minister to have passed away, Donald Dewar, also died on a day when Scotland were playing Croatia in Zagreb, in 2000."
I need to talk to my mate and tell him to be careful whenever Scotland play Croatia in Zagreb in the future.

A study in scarlet, of course.
Quite how Holmes got through his years at (probably) Eton without ever learning that the Earth went around the Sun, I have never known. And if he indeed didn't either know or care about this point, how came he to know so much about the obliquity of the ecliptic?

I suppose we must assume that the good doctor was a positive influence on him, and he started taking interest in the larger world. in fact, we might assume that from his line of thought as they toured Europe prior to the meeting with Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls;
" Of late I have been tempted to look into the problems furnished by nature rather than those more superficial ones for which our artificial state of society is responsible."
Clearly he is taking a broader view of the world, which might well include the finer points of astronomy...

Paul Di'Anno died yesterday aged 66.
As the vocalist on the first two Iron Maiden albums he was world famous but seemingly gained little financially from his input.
Not in the slightest bit 'SPOOKY' btw.

I remember he was on the Go with Noakes programme, he was sat in John Noakes' Morris minor ragtop with the ragtop removed. The top of the windscreen came to about chin level on Geoff and there was a definite list on the Minor.
