I like the way it's "this is really a travel programme that we are in the process of making and the production team is making me do silly things but here's a bit I really like with fast cars and science stuff." This was actually the format of much of the Top Gear series of course - especially the travel specials. PDR

I am excited for two TV shows tonight, and they are both game shows
The hit list is back on (music show), and I love to test my music trivia with it
The other one is password. A sort of guessing game. You get clues to a word and you need to guess what it is

PDR I tended to avoid Top Gear when it was on, mainly because I'm not that interested in cars, but when I was staying with my son last year for a month we ended up watching quite a few Top Gear programmes he'd downloaded, and I actually found them quite enjoyable. I see what you mean about the similarities in style to this show.

Actually I quite liked RoP. Not a major contribution to The Art, but still quite watchable. On off-beat things - I was recently pointed to an unappreciated US TV movie which bombed when originally released and is now only available on youtube. Again, not a major [piece of art but quite thought provoking (it struck a chord with me). The film is "Fatherland" staring Rutger Haeur, Miranda Richardson, Michael Kitchen and many other familiar faces. It's based on a world in which Germany won WW2 by repulsing the D-Day landings and then nuking the UK, leading to an armistice with the USA byt a continuing low-level conflict with the USSR. The film is set 20 years after the end of the war with Germany trying to normalise relations with US president Kennedy [Joseph Kennedy, just for amusement] to get assistance to finally defeat the USSR. Germany had successfully hidden the holocaust, but a journalist (Miranda Richardson) starts to unravel it. I can see why it had mixed reception, but it explores some interesting themes and I certainly didn't resent the couple of hours I spent watching it. PDR Spooky! That book and movie came up in conversation between cowboy shows last week! Cannot now remember the context, but for the life of me, I could not remember the title for about ten very frustrating minutes...

2 things of interest this evening, apart from Only Connect Billy Connolly looks back at his career (22.40, BBC1) , and a look at at tge eise of right-wing female influences in the US on BBC 3. These are women who would deny themselves the vote, it seems.
Also, 2 of the guests on Call My Bluff are Felicity Kendall and Penelope Keith, from 1976 or so. Could be interesting!

Felicity Kendall is a goddess! I did not personally care much for "Rosemary and Thyme", but my mum used to like it, so I was often in the room when it was on, and I was constantly amazed at her apparent agelessness....

BBC News Channel has a show called Newswatch in which members of the public comment on their coverage. Last night one contributor complained about them referring to participants in the recent rioting as 'far-right'. His comments also included a remark about concerns after years of uncontrolled immigration. Pperhaps he considers Tommy 12-Names a dangerous lefty...

I've just been watching some old episodes of Malcolm in the Middle (2000-2006).
Laugh out loud funny.

Having watched a couple of episodes of Call My Bluff, my mind turned to suggesting a remake. Who would The Team like to see as chair and team captains? A few suggestions: Chair -- Richard Osman or Ahir Shah Captains-- Steohen Fry and Sandi Toksvig? David Mitchell and Victoris Coren Mitchell Nish Kumar and Rachel Parrish?

Only Connect this evening.
Who is Ian Buckells, what is his connection to the letter H, and why didn't Mrs Coren Mitchell want to talk about him? I've tried asking Google, and it didn't really help.

H is the mystery villain in Line of Duty whose identity isn't known until the end. So this clue reveals a major plot spoiler for anyone who hasn't watched it. PDR

It is essentially the same show as Would I Lie To You, just with a narrower range of subjects. So probably use the same cast. All the ones they've aired so far have included an actor who played in Upstairs Downstairs. Coincidence? PDR

So this clue reveals a major plot spoiler for anyone who hasn't watched it. PDR Ah! And since this was a BBC show, they wouldn't want to spoil it. Had it been a show from another network, it might all have been different.
I don't really know why i never watched Line of Duty. While I don't watch a great deal of television, crime drama is one of the things I do watch. The show will probably come round again at some point - but I suppose there'd be no point watching it now.
Mind you, what I now know to be the central premise - that the central police officer character turns out also to be the big baddie - has been done any number of any times before. Before it degenerated into a sitcom starring Ted Danson, CSI massively missed a trick by not quite sending Laurence Fishburne down that road. I'm convinced that the writers had that in mind for a while, but maybe were told not to go there.

Well the series is about the police's internal investigations unit, so the baddie being a police officer is actually the point. The spoiler is actually whgich one it is.

I'll third Line of Duty.
Last night's TV watching chez nous was, of course, the Harris-Trump debate, but that's probably a topic for another forum.

They were good, although some of the questions were quite easy (I think the mental score kept in our head had me and the wife giving them a good run for their money)

We finished Eric yesterday. and I have mixed feelings about it. It was good, but not in the way I wanted it to be. The story is sold as a young boy (Benedict Cumberbatch's son) who disappears, and the voyage of discovery the father goes through while the son is missing. And while he certainly does disappear, the understory is the real tale being told with the Cumberbatch role just filling in while not much is happening.
I'm now looking forward to Will and Harper. The story of a 17 day road trip and a voyage of discovery taken by Will Ferrell and the former SNL writer Harper (formerly Andrew) Steele at the start of the transition journey. It sounds quite interesting
