The last time I was in Clacton was to scatter our parent's ashes off the pier, so I was hardly in the brightest of moods anyway. I had to wait for a while for my brother to get there with dad's ashes, so I had time for a wander around. Despite my happy memories of the place from hundreds of childhood holidays, the general surroundings managed to make me even more depressed than I already was...

Rather tenuously perhaps...
I've spent a few months in Malta over the course of two trips there and on the second one (?), since my eye and hair colour at that age were close to those of Ms Jolie, I kept getting her face pulled at me on the street by Maltese women. Obviously this was not the worst holiday experience imaginable.
I'd always believed up to today that this was because they'd filmed Troy (Maltese shooting April to June 2003) there but Angelina Jolie isn't in the film Troy and although Brad Pitt is Brangelina didn't become a thing until 2005 apparently. The couple did subsequently honeymoon on Gozo (even smaller island next to Malta proper) in August 2014 while shooting By the Sea but that is too late to be relevant - I mention it only out of a desire to be thorough.
