aka "Annoying the neighbours".
It gives me great honour to make the inaugural post in the thread that's dedicated to my favourite subject!
A desert rock supergroup that began in 2010 as a one-off to fill a spot on the bill when another band had to cancel at the last minute. This is their first release, a live album that was recorded at a venue on Australia's Gold Coast during their tour last year.

The thread formerly known as "What Are you Listening to right now?"
Given that I never listen to anything that might annoy the neighbours, I'm not sure if I can make any posts to this thread! But for the record, I'm currently listening to the very end of the Today programme on Radio 4. The neighbours haven't complained yet.

I am listening to the hum of the window-shaker air conditioner because it's very hot out there but my office is nice and cool!

I'm listening to the jazz hour on Serenade Radio and a great track called "Frasier" by Jimmy Rowles, with Sarah Vaughan on vocals. It's the story of a lion who was very poorly when he was rescued, but got on rather well with a pack of six female lions...

I was with my son and daughter in law and the grandchildren all last week, and thus exposed to music I wouldn't normally have come across. I discover that I like tracks by Hozier and by Sia, though I don't know any of them well enough to name them yet.

Courtesy of Boom Light, "Raunchy" by Bill Justis. The previous track was "After the Goldrush" by Prelude, and the one before that was "Everybody Loves a Lover" by Doris Day. There really is a remarkable amount of variety on these easy-listening stations.

We have one called WCLZ in Portland, which does a good mix of new and old music. I tend to listen mainly to NPR in the car (which is where I mainly listen to radio) because I like talking programmes, but Woodsman listens to WCLZ most of the time so he is often far more up to date on music than I am.

I'm currently listening to Private Eye's "Page 94" podcast. I don't listen to a lot of podcasts but I tried this one a few months ago and have become a fan. It has the same irreverent take on the news as you'd expect from Private Eye, while also being very informative. This week they're talking about the fallout from the election as you might expect. Features Ian Hislop, Helen Lewis, Adam Macqueen and Andrew Hunter Murray (formerly of QI I believe). www.private-eye.co.uk/podcast

This morning I went round to the flat next door, banged noisily on the door and shouted abuse through the letterbox. I have been reported to the police as a result. (None of the above is true, I just wanted to make an on-topic post for once )

It's my neighbour's turn to annoy me this morning. He's clearing his front garden after several other neighbours made complaints to the council about his hoarding. The part of his driveway that's the other side of my living room wall seems to be his location of choice to stack things as he's tidying. I'm countering with Island Apes self-titled album.

It's my neighbour's turn to annoy me this morning. Maybe this thread should be retitled "annoying neighbours" Bondee: I'm not sure if this thread is quite working in the way intended. Would you object if I resurrected "What are you listening to right now"?

Yes, you're right. The title is a bit confusing, isn't it.
I've edited it, along with my initial post, to something more understandable.

I'm currently listening to Clare Teal's show on Jazz FM, which is one of the highlights of my week on a Sunday evening, and she has just announced that next week will be her last show, as management have decided to bring in a new schedule. She was dumped similarly from BBC Radio 2 about five years ago, which is how she ended up on Jazz FM (a station I rarely listen to otherwise).
She is undoubtedly one of the greatest enthusiasts for jazz, swing and big band music that I've come across, both as a performer and as a broadcaster. Why do radio stations keep treating her like this?

Maybe the enthusiasm for jazz, swing and big band music is diminishing? Personally, I like very little jazz. I can listen to swing and big band music in the background without it bothering me, but it's not music I would ever choose to listen to, and at my age I'm probably the era that that kind of music is aimed at.

But Clare Teal's younger than I am! (51, in fact.) I know that I tend to listen to music aimed at an older generation but her show features all sorts of eclectic stuff that I wouldn't otherwise be familiar with. Sunday evenings simply won't be the same without her. I shall shed a tear.

An almost 90 minute set from sunno))), performing in their most basic form as the Shoshin Duo.
Not everyone's cuppa, in fact I'll hazard a guess that it's not anyone's cuppa, except mine.
Headphones on, outside world blocked out, reminiscing about the closest thing to a religious experience I've ever had.

Shine Holy Ray of Love - from Cinderella by Alma Deutscher
The composer was 15 when her first full opera, Cinderella, was finally completed.
Snippet from the finale
The composed is on the organ at the left of the stage and the flower girl is her younger sister.

Made up my mind to make a new start Going to Calafiori with an aching in my heart Someone told me there's a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair
Too gay sounding?

I've been thoroughly enjoying Jack White's latest 'No Name' album, which feels like it has echoes of Page, Plant & co's work at times.
I also had a long drive home from Northumberland recently with the phone stuck in 'you've just played that so might like this mode'. With a prompt of Ali Farka Touré, it turns out the device can summon a near endless supply of Malian desert blues, which was nice. I was introduced in particular to Amadou et Mariam, whose blend of Saharan and Western pop influences I rather like (I gather they've been internationally famous for quite some time, but had passed me by till now).

If "the song currently running through your head" counts as listening to...
This came up on my iPod on the way back from the GP's this morning. One of my favourite fun songs, and it's been my earworm all day.

Today's prom. They're doing the bells-and-whistles version of Handel's Messiah.
For those that don't know, it's what you get when you ask Mozart to spruce up the by then somewhat unfashionable style of music. Softer edges in places, "fatter" orchestration. THe flutes are having a field day, and the notion of keeping percussion and trumpets off until the big moment at the end of part II has gone out of the window. It's quite nice, actually, if you think of it as a cover version :-)

I saw that and thought 'Good for him' - but...
The poor woman on the bridge has deep, private problems. She was finding life unbearable to cope with. Now her situation has been blurted all over the press, all over the world.
If she gets support as a result, then it has been a good thing, but just there is no press value in that, and no suggestion she has. Just making her private grief public property could drive her over the edge.

I don't know if it's uncaring of me or respectful of her privacy (kinda both I think) but I took no interest in her precise circumstances. By definition I think potential suicides are 'not in their right mind' and I saw no reason to uncover the exact nature of her distress.

Poor woman to be in so much distress. They didn't reveal her face and there was no close-up, and her name wasn't mentioned (in that article anyway) so I don't think there's a question of her situation being broadcast to the world. He was very sweet to her, giving her a hug.
